Reservoir Development and Optimization

  • Early field development plan of offshore North Sea gas reservoir with vertical and horizontal wells.Reservoir development plan for offshore UK light oil reservoir developed with horizontal wells that was experiencing early rise of water cut. Identifying the cause for the pre-mature arrival of water. Assisting client in presentations to potential investors.

EOR Studies

  • Pilot design for a CO2-EOR immiscible flood in a depleted naturally fractured reservoir with 40 years of history. Design parameters with incremental recovery was quantified; recommendations for additional measurements to reduce uncertainty were given.
  • EOR Selection for a severely under-saturated heavy oil reservoir with strong aquifer. The reservoir did not pass any EOR screening. Using an analogue in Alaska immiscible gas and WAG was recommended. Simulation studies showed benefits.

Reservoir Characterization

  • Design of multi-well interference test and their analysis for characterization of top water zone in prospective SAGD development project.
  • Identification and quantification of gas loss from a gas storage reservoir using analytical and numerical techniques. An innovative interference test was designed for characterization of communication between two reservoirs and to narrow the range of uncertainty in the results.

Integrated Reservoir Studies

  • Reservoir development plan for near-critical reservoir to meet available pipeline capacity and maximize liquid recovery.
  • Field development plan for horizontal well development of low permeability sands and presentation of results to Tunisian government.
  • Field development plan of depleted heavy oil field using SAGD, with uncertainty, risk assessment and economic evaluation for expert witness testimony.

Geological Storage of CO2 and Acid Gas Disposal

  • Post mortem of five acid gas injection projects that had failed, either because of unexpected breakthrough or over-pressurization. Providing recommendations to ERCB. A number papers were published.
  • Development plan for geological storage of CO2 in the aquifer of the second larges oil reservoir in Canada. Included innovations in characterization of the aquifer; whose uncertainties had the largest impact on the development plan.

Fracture Characterization

  • Re-analyses of well-tests of the Grossmont formation (double-porosity/heavy oil); examining utility of well-testing for fracture characterization.

Natural Gas Storage

  • Field development plan for turning a depleted storage reservoir to a gas storage reservoir. In addition to analytical and numerical modelling of the reservoir, wellbore and gathering system, the scope included support of the client in promoting the project to attract additional investment.
  • Identification of the wells with communication with three off-setting gas storage reservoirs and quantification of the degree of loss.

Due Dilligence, M&A Evaluations

  • Technical evaluation of operations and reserves of Canadian SAGD company for financing offering.
  • Screening and ranking of 104 blocks offered by the Mexican government is 6 different plays.
  • Evaluation of a series of offshore producing and discovered reservoirs as well as exploratory leads in the Canadian East Coast in support of an NGL project.

Tight and Shale Gas/Oil Reservoirs

  • Evaluation of historical shale gas production performance using RTA technology to characterize hydraulic fracture effectiveness, estimate reservoir parameters and use these to determine optimal well spacing.
  • Reservoir characterization and forecasting of production from condensate unconventional reservoir in support of future development. Developed an innovative method for uncertainty assessment using proxy functions supported by reservoir simulation.
